Our counselors are trained in evidence-based methods to treat ADHD and certified to work with individuals and couples who are struggling with the effects of ADHD on their relationship.
ADHD is described as a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by one or more of the following symptoms: impulsiveness, inattentiveness, hyperactivity. Below are some examples of how ADHD shows up in adult relationships.
Examples of impulsivity in adult relationships include: frequent interruption, emotional explosiveness, having trouble waiting your turn, and making rash decisions without involving your partner.
Examples of inattentiveness in adult relationships include: getting distracted during conversations, slower processing speed and need for repetition, appearing aloof or in your own world, shutting down emotionally, forgetting important events or tasks, being frequently late.
Examples of hyperactivity in adult relationships: fidgeting while talking or sitting together, the need for constant stimulation via watching tv or scrolling on the phone, the need to plan or go on the next adventure, excessive talking during conversations.
