Nelson Banegas is a pre-licensed professional and a Clinical Mental Health Counselor at the Marriage Point. Nelson holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of La Verne, a Masters in Divinity with an emphasis in Family Pastoral Care and Counseling from Fuller Theological Seminary, and a Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling from The University of the Cumberlands. He successfully completed a Clinical Chaplaincy Internship at Emory University Hospital Midtown, in Atlanta and is certified as a Christian Counselor by the Board of Examiners for Georgia Christian Counselors and Therapists. He is also a Certified Prepare-Enrich Facilitator and an ordained Pastor.
Nelson takes a person-centered and cognitive-behavioral approach to counseling. Nelson works with couples and individuals around issues of communication, conflict resolution, emotional intimacy and helps couples rekindle a deep connection with one another. Nelson is able to identify when there are external stressors and internal barriers to achieving a connected and intimate relationship. Nelson also works with individuals who struggle with anxiety and depression and helps them heal past hurts and gain clarity and motivation to keep living their lives with joy and confidence.
Nelson has worked in pastoral ministry for over twenty years. Throughout his ministry career Nelson has had the opportunity to work in various pastoral roles, from assistant pastor in a small multi-cultural church in Los Angeles, to lead pastor in rural Georgia. No matter his role, Nelson’s strongest passion is providing caring support and spiritual guidance to church and community members. When working with clergy members and those in the ministry, Nelson focuses on helping people identify and flesh out their vocation and calling, and dive deeper in with their spiritual practices. He helps pastors improve and heal their relationships in their homes as well as in their church communities.
Nelson is attuned to cultural nuances and is experienced in working with people from many different nationalities. He welcomes diversity in all forms and is affirming of the marital relationship in all people.
Nelson is fluent in Spanish and can provide services in this language to both couples and individuals.
Fee & Insurance Information
Nelson does not directly participate with any insurance network. However, he is able to provide a Superbill which can be submitted for reimbursement with health insurance companies.
